Someone wise once said that life is a journey and uni-
versity studies are a trip. A trip including a lot of exciting
events, colorful overalls, new life-long friends, learned les-
sons both inside and outside of lecture halls and above all,
unforgettable experiences. It is a trip that goes by faster
than you think. Your trip is just about to begin, and now I
will present you the pit crew of both this trip and the jour-
ney following your degree: Suomen Ekonomit, aka. The
Finnish Business School Graduates.
Suomen Ekonomit is a central benefit organization for both
graduates and current students in B.Sc. and M. Sc. in Eco-
nomics & Business Administration in Finland. We consist
of over 52 000 members, and every business student in
Only the best for business students!
Finland is granted a free membership for the duration of
their studies. By joining our student association Enklaavi,
you will join Ekonomit as well.
Suomen Ekonomit truly is a pit crew that has it all. We
offer a wide range of different benefits and services to
make sure that your trip will go smoothly. We will cover
the bumps in the roads and fill your gas tank when nee-
ded. For example, we offer free legal counseling, salary
advising, and we seek to ensure that your degree is res-
pected in the labor market. We also offer a wide range of
events and workshops, free Kauppalehti-magazine, and a
lot more. With our help, you will get a head start on your
way to your future career – so what are you waiting for!
After the pit crew, it is time for me to introduce myself. I
am Aino Juurikkala, a master’s degree student here in LUT
University and your student liaison to Suomen Ekonomit.
In Finnish, the term is Kylteriyhdyshenkilö, but you can
call me Kylli for short! Along my studies I work at Suomen
Ekonomit, and I am your closest link to the organization.
We will get to know each other quite well during the fresh-
men weeks, so please do not hesitate to come and talk to
me or follow me on social media. I am the one with the
best overall padges and contacts to the pit crew!
Congrats and welcome! I cannot wait to meet you.

Dear newcomer,
Congratulations on your acceptance to study Business and
Management at LUT University! My name is Meerimaria
Greetings of LTKY
and I would like to welcome you on the behalf of LTKY, the
student union of LUT.
You have probably heard already that the office of LTKY is
where you can get the sticker for your student card and
enjoy a cup of coffee in the lounge. However, we have a
lot more to offer, too. The mission of the student union is
to make the life of students better. LTKY organizes advo-
cacy and lobbying of the students’ opinion on local and
national levels. LTKY also runs Aalef’s restaurants Yolo and
Laseri as well as the small shop on campus’ main building.
You can read about us in more detail and see the several
services we offer for students on LTKY website (ltky.fi).
One of the main tasks of LTKY is to maintain and respect
the student culture. At LUT there are nine guilds in total
and more than 30 activity and hobby clubs. Finnish student
culture is unique and interesting, and I really recommend
getting involved in it. I would suggest joining your guild
Enklaavi as well as ESN Lappeenranta, where you can find
more international students. LTKY also organizes lots of
activities and events together with the guilds and clubs.
LTKY is major stakeholder of Aalef, company that has two
restaurants and one kiosk.
In addition to studying it is very important to have fun,
enjoy life, and make a lot of memories while you are here.
That’s why I would really recommend paying attention to
all the extracurricular activities LUT, LTKY and the guilds
offer and make new friends along the way. From this point
of view LUT is the perfect place; The majority of students
live next to the campus or within two-kilometer distance,
creating lively community, where it is easy to make friends
with other international and Finnish students as well.
LTKY’s office is in lobby of Ylioppilastalo.
Lastly, I’d like to point out the beautiful scenery in Lap-
peenranta. I’m sure you will like that the campus is ful-
ly surrounded by nature; trees, flowers and lake Saimaa.
Between two lectures you can simply walk to the lake to
sit down, have a break, and relax. It’s the best study envi-
ronment anyone can wish for, in my opinion at least.
And to keep you informed before and during your studies
with news and also more humorous stuff, make sure to
follow us in our social media! You can find us on Insta-
gram @ltky_insta.
Welcome to our community, enjoy your studies and make
memories that will last for a lifetime!

peenranta! I’m 25 years old and beginning my second year
of my Master’s studies in the MIMM program at LUT. I am
from the U.S. and moved to Finland to start my studies last
Fall. I was working for several years between my Bachelor’s

South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe! I have a long
list of amazing experiences that I have packed into my

of nature around lake Saimaa during your time here!
Gilbert Teklevchiev
Hello! My name is Gilbert, I’ve come from Boston, USA.,
and I am a second-year mater’s student at LUT. Before pur-
suing a master’s degree in Business Administration at LUT,
I obtained a BSc in Management and Finance at UMASS –
Boston. I am an outspoken and very talkative person who
enjoys traveling and getting to know different cultures as
well as meeting new people. My time at LUT has been a
unique and memorable experience full of new and surpri-
sing moments. It would be a pleasure for me to meeting
you all to share my experience and provide you with assis-
tance in all I can to help you enjoy your time here at LUT
and Lappeenranta.”
Meerimaria Ketokulta
Hi lovely reader! Awesome, you’ve gotten into a quite su-
perb university, I’d say! Congratulations! I’m Meeri, and I
will be tutor for our new Masters’ students in Accounting
program. 22 years old, starting my third year in Bachelor,
originally from Salo but well adapted to Lappeenranta!
I’m quite cheerful and always happy Duracell bunny, who
dances in parties to wee hours, whose laugh is heard mi-
les away and who loves to work for my fellow students. I
think the best thing in lappeen Ranta is the unique social
cohesion and spirit, which goes beyond all colors of ove-
ralls and which can be felt starting from the day one in the
campus as good spirit, new friends and let’s do this -atti-
tude. Hope you’re ready, ’cause we’re about to take off!
Monika Rautio
First of all congratulations for getting into the best uni-
versity ever!
My name is Monika and I’m 19 years old. I’m originally
from Vantaa and starting my second year of business stu-
dies here in LUT. At first I was a bit worried about moving
away from home without knowing anyone from Lappeen-
ranta beforehand, but was more than positively surprised
about the great atmosphere and people we have here. I
guarantee you will enjoy your time here as much as I do
and I highly recommend that you participate to the acti-
vities LUT offers you to make sure of that. My job is to get
you started and familiar with Lappeenranta and our uni-
versity. Can’t wait to meet you all!
Riku Jäppinen
Yo wadap! I’m Riku, a 22-year-old third year business stu-
dent originally from Lahti. I’m a big fan of all the sports
activities that LUT offers and also have been doing this a
bit more rare sport called karting for 15 years now. I’m
eager to help you in any occasion the life in Lappeenran-
ta provides you with. Don’t hesitate to ask anything that
comes to your minds, it’s always better to ask than to do
something wrong because you didn’t know. I wish you all
a very pleasant time here in Lappeenranta and at LUT and
hope you enjoy your stay <3.
Victoria Mielck
Hi everyone and congrats on being accepted to LUT!
My name is Victoria and I’m a second year bachelor stu-
dent here in LUT. I’m originally from Helsinki and I’ve also
lived a year in the beautiful state of Oregon, US. I love
meeting new people and getting to know more about dif-
ferent cultures. My first year in LUT was unforgettable and
I’ve enjoyed every moment in here. The best thing about
our school is all the amazing people and that everyone is
accepted just how they are.
I hope your time in here will be as amazing as mine. Can’t
wait to meet you all and welcome you to LUT! :)
