Application Period for Fresher Captains is open from 2nd of March until the 15th of March

Will you be the next Fresher Captain? 

Enklaavi is looking for a new Finnish and International Fresher Captain for the term 2026–2027, from Wappu’s Eve to the next Wappu’s Eve. The application period starts today, March 2nd, and ends on March 15th. 

What do Fresher Captains actually do? Fresher Captains operate under Enklaavi’s Board Member for Social Affairs, and their main responsibility is to take care of new students in Enklaavi. 

Fresher Captains are actively present at various events, support tutors, promote interdisciplinary cooperation, plan events, and much more — all to ensure that new students’ time here in Skinnarila gets off to the smoothest possible start, both academically and socially. In other words, they turn freshers into true Enklaavi members. At the same time, you’ll become part of a close-knit and active group together with other LUT and LAB Fresher Captains. 

Anyone can apply to become a Fresher Captain, regardless of whether you’re a first-year student or a seasoned veteran! What matters most is that you are approachable, open to new experiences, and ready to throw yourself into the role — as a Fresher Captain, you set an example for others. The Finnish Fresher Captain requires fluent Finnish, but the international fresher captain does not, only English is needed!

The next Fresher Captain will be elected at Enklaavi’s Annual Meeting on March 23rd, where members will also have the opportunity to ask a few questions to all applicants. You can also run for the position(s) directly at the Annual Meeting. Please note that the applications will be published on Enklaavi’s website!

Täällä Kata, toisen vuoden enklaavilainen ja vielä jotenkin hengissä. Oon aiemmin toiminut Enklaavin kv-jaostossa vuonna 2025 ja tänä vuonna oon mukana maisterijaostossa. Viime vuonna tuli pyörittyä myös ESN Lappeenrannan aktiivitoiminnassa järkkäämässä tapahtumia ja hoitamassa viestintää. Lisäksi oon tietysti ollut tuutorina kahdesti ja oon tykännyt muutenkin olla osana Skinun poikkitieteellistä kulttuuria, monissa eri muodoissa.
 
Mua on ihan omien opintojen alusta asti kiinnostanut opiskelijoiden integraatio meidän hienoon opiskelijayhteisöön, ja haen fuksivastaavaksi juuri siitä syystä että voisin itse toimia uusien fuksien hyvinvoinnin eteen. Mulle on tärkeetä, että kaikki keltanokat löytäis paikkansa Saimaan rannalla ja kokis olevansa osa meidän yhteisöä. Erityisesti kansainvälisyys on mulle tärkeä asia ja haluisin tehdä työtä sen eteen, että kv-fuksit saisi positiivisen kuvan meidän ainejärjestöstä ja yliopistosta muutenkin.
 
Minusta tekisi hyvän fuksivastaavan se, että mulla on ihan oikeaa kiinnostusta saada uudet opiskelijat osaksi meidän yliopistoa. Oon myös hyvä verkostoitumaan ja toimin hyvin paineen alla, mitä varmasti tarvitaan ainakin fuksiviikoilla. Oon samaan aikaan järjestelmällinen ja hallitusti kaoottinen, joten olisin hyvä opastamaan fukseja opiskelijakulttuurin moniin eri osa-alueisiin. Poikkitieteellisyys on alusta asti ollut mulle tärkeetä, sekin antaa lisäarvoa mun potentiaaliselle fuksivastaavuudelle.
 
Jos mut valitaan, pyrin olemaan helposti lähestyttävä ja innostava fuksivastaava, jolta uskaltaa kysyä tyhmimmätkin kysymykset. Haluun että jokainen opiskelujaan alottava fuksi löytää paikkansa ja erityisesti viihtyy täällä Skinnarilassa. Aion innostaa kaikkia uusia mukaan aktiivitoimintaan ja haluan painottaa sitä, miten antoisaa on olla osa yhteisöä jossa kaikkien aktiivipanosta tarvitaan. Mun oma fuksivuosi oli opettavainen ja mielenkiintoinen, ja haluun olla se joka mahdollistaa muillekin tän saman hienouden.

My name is Deb Jauty Paul, originally from Bangladesh and
currently in my second year of the Sustainable International
Business program. I am applying for the international fresher
captain position. Previously I have been an international
bachelor’s tutor for Enklaavi, worked in the events committee,
international committee and Ltky cultural committee, currently
I am a representative council member in Ltky from neon. At
the moment I am on an exchange program in Brussels for the
spring semester.
In my first year, what made my fresher experience more
memorable was having 2 great fresher captains. They made
me interested to be active in this community. I applied to
committees and became an international tutor. Then I felt I
could do more. Over the last 1.5 years while living in
lappeenranta I have participated and organised events,
indulging myself in the traditions of skinnarilla. I have seen Lappeenranta from the perspective
of an international student. Moreover I am from the first batch of sib and till now sib hasn’t got a
fresher caption from sib nor international background. So I believe with my personal experience
and willingness to help this community, fresher captain would be a position where I could help
the freshers to integrate better into this wonderful student culture.
I want to be consistently available and very easily approachable to the community. The most
amazing thing about skinnarilla is its diverse student culture. I think a fresher captain influences
the whole community. I want to uphold the traditions of enklaavi and skinnarilla and help make
an inclusive student culture while increasing interguild collaboration. Drawing from my own
experience, non-eu or even eu international students always face some unique challenges while
settling down during their orientation weeks. I faced challenges that were often new to my
tutors; later, as an international tutor, I saw my tutees facing those same challenges. It can be
really difficult to navigate through them without prior experience. So as an international fresher
captain I want to solve that gap by sharing these insights with tutors beforehand. I hope it will
help the freshers to settle down in lappeenranta and start their studentlife smoothly.
